Caporale di giornata (1958) as Boxing referee.

This is actually quite a large speaking role, but unfortunately not quite large enough to get him credited. ANICA says it's Furlanetto (Enzo Furlai) in this role, but, while he bears some physical similarities, Furlanetto is not our man and it is not him in this role.

In Colpo doppio del Camaleonte D'oro (1967) a speaking and important role as a Bouncer

IMDB says that Buttafuori is "Stefano Ceccarelli" (credited) maybe a relative with Pietro Ceccarelli?
Stefano Ceccarelli has not other credits... maybe is the real name of Barbarian Torturer?

Very interesting find! There is one more credit for "Stefano Ceccarelli", listed on Wikipedia as playing the role "Adriano" in the 1946/47 film Daniele Cortis. There is an 8 minute clip from the film on You Tube taken from 16mm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1shQKjlrrok. I couldn't spot Barbarian Torturer among the actors in the clip, but Stefano Ceccarelli is included in the actors they credit before the clip begins. The poster of the clip on You Tube says in the notes for the video that it is possible to order a copy of the complete film, but it would probably take an Italian speaker to work out how to do this.

Pietro Ceccarelli is widely mis-credited as playing the role played by Barbarian Torturer in Fellini's La Strada. I have always assumed someone made the mis-identification because they both have shaved heads (Pietro was only 20 at the time so far too young to be playing the role), but maybe Stefano is credited somewhere in a cast list for the film and that could have lead to the confusion? Just an idea.

One more indicator that our man is very probably Stefano Ceccarelli is this quote, found by Steven, from the book Fellini & Rossi: il sesto vitellone, which says that Stefano Ceccarelli plays the "bald innkeeper" in La strada, which is the role played by the Barbarian Torturer. The fact that they describe him as being a "stuntman", which BT was not (or maybe was when he was younger?), has probably caused some confusion and led to him being mis-identified as Pietro.

This, combined with Fabio Melelli's identification of the actor as being Ceccarelli and the role identification by Themefi may be sufficient to confirm his identification. What do others think - is this enough for an identification?

Yes Nick that is the book that came up while i was searching for Stefano Ceccarelli online earlier today after the post that Themefi did. There was plenty of information on the more recent Italian actor Stefano Ceccarelli but little on our actor.

While it would be interesting to know Melelli knows the identity of this very obscure performer, yet doesn't know anything about whether he's connected to Pietro Ceccarelli or not, I think the combination of the role found by Themefi and the snippet from the Fellini book make a compelling case.
