Omero Capanna in L'uomo puma (1980)

Omero Capanna was a stuntman active in Italian films from the start of the 1960's until the end of the 1990's.

He was born on April 4th 1942 in Rome, Italy and he died on October 11th 2003, also in Rome, aged 61. He was the son of stuntman Otello Capanna (best remembered as one of the charioteers in Ben-Hur) and his wife, Elvira, and he was the 3rd of 4 children, the others being Mario, Maria and Vanda. He was the nephew of actor Pietro Capanna.[1]

His filmography is proving somewhat problematic. The website omerocapanna.it, moderated by Omero's son Luciano, provides a very lengthy list of film titles, however of 30-odd titles listed between 1960-1964, almost all peplums, he has only been identified in one (from a 2nd he is identified from an on-set image and in another he is mis-identified). This does not necessarily mean that he did not appear in the films, most of these titles feature large battle scenes where none of the extras are identifiable, but does indicate that he is not seen identifiably - a problem for this forum since our inclusions in filmographies are based on visual identifications. The listings on the website were compiled from Omero's personal records, so they should be considered reliable, but without some visual confirmation they can only be considered to be unconfirmed.

From the late 60's onwards his appearances became more prominent and for most of the later roles listed he does seem to appear.

Even with this extensive source of titles I have found that there can still be additional roles to be found. Various websites list him as having appeared in anywhere from 200 to 400 films.

His biographical details come from the omerocapanna.it, website and I think that can be taken as a reliable source.

No Omero!

Films where Omero is listed as appearing somewhere online, but cannot be found. As mentioned before, there are a LOT of peplum titles listed on omerocapanna.it where he does not seem to appear identifiably, I will list these with the abbreciation OC.IT.

• Esther and the King (1960) OC.IT as Soldier. We have images in our topic for this film of pretty much every actor who appears identifiably, and Omero has not been found among them.
• Le meraviglie di Aladino (1961) OC.IT as Muzda. This role is listed with an image, however universal opinion is that it is Rinaldo Zamperla in this role and not Omero.
• Io Semiramide (1963) OC.IT as Soldier. We have images in our topic for this film of pretty much every actor who appears identifiably, and Omero has not been found among them.

This role is identified as Omero on omerocapanna.net and most people are in agreement that it is him (Johan disagrees). Of the 30-odd peplum titles listed on the site from between 1960-1964 this is the only one where he has so far been identified.
