Armando Zappi was a historical capogruppo (extras director). He worked as crowd marshall and production assistant in various movies.
In the early 80's he had a bad illness that took away his vocal cords; after a tracheotomy, his voice became therefore very low and rough.
Carlo Verdone tells about him that on the set of a scene from Stasera a casa di Alice (the location was near piazza Navona, in Rome), a thug disturbed the filming with the noise of his scooter to force the production to pay him to leave, Verdone turned to Zappi for solve the problem. Zappi accepted to think about the matter. He had no intention of paying the thug, he asked him to get off the scooter and follow him away from the set for "talking", at that moment Zappi pulled out a gun and fired three shots to put the jammer on the run: the problema was solved.
Like any capogruppo, is extremely probably that he has an undiscovered long career as a generico behind him.
