- Petar Martinović in Alla ricerca del piacere (1972)
|
Tall, hard-faced and powerfully built,
Petar Martinović cuts a very imposing figure, and it is not surprising that he ended up being cast as thugs and henchmen in various Italian westerns and crime movies of the 1970s. He even appeared in a few Fellini films, but was nearly always uncredited.
His two largest and most famous roles are both opposite Rosalba Neri in two classic Italian cult movies: in the erotic giallo
Alla ricerca del piacere (1972), Martinović plays Rocco, the mentally challenged but powerful fisherman who is used as a pawn in Rosalba's kinky games, and in
La figlia di Frankenstein (1971), he plays the heavily disfigured Frankenstein monster.
Unfortunately, there are no biographical informations available on this very interesting performer, and just about all online sources misspell his surname is Martinovitch. However, his facial features and name suggest he is of Eastern European origin. The name Petar is very common in countries such as Croatia and Serbia, and so is the surname Martinović.

Petar's other big role (again opposite Rosalba Neri) in the sleazy horror classic
La figlia di Frankenstein (1971) as
The Frankenstein monster. Here, his large and powerful physique is relied upon for most of his scenes
Most of the cast have their names anglicized, and Petar is listed in the German credits as Peter Matinov
The spelling Matinov without R in the German credits must be an error, because in the English credits, he's listed as Martinov, which makes far more sense
PS! Every single source I've come across credit Petar with playing the role of Jack Morgan, the prisoner who is hanged, whereas a certain Peter Whiteman is credited with the role of the monster, but this is obviously wrong.
