Small piece from the newspaper L'Unità (4 November 1966) about The Folkstudio Singers' new show "Un negro chiamato John Brown" debuting at the Teatro Centrale, having previously enjoyed great success in Milan. Terrible quality, but that should be Archie on the left.

And here's an article about The Folkstudio Singers in the magazine Il Dramma (May 1970). The only picture used to illustrate the article is of Archie, who is described as "the soul of the group" and "the true spiritual fabric of the Folksingers".

I've also found this tiny notice the newspaper L'Unità (23 March 1973) about a program of negro spirituals with Archie Savage and the Folkstudio Singers, so they were apparently still around by that time, but with some personnel changes.

Already the next year, a group called New Folkstudio Singers appeared, but from the videos of their performances that are floating around, it looks like Archie wasn't part of this new incarnation. In fact, the brothers Eddie and Jessie Hawkins appear to have been the only original members to still be part of the group at that point.

Ragazza mia (1960) (TV mini series). I've not been able to find a copy, but the cast list printed in Radiocorriere TV credits Archie with playing the role of The negro in episode 1.

Tokende! (1966). Archie and the rest of The Folkstudio Singers (Eddie and Jesse Hawkins, Llew Trotman and Billy Ward) appear as themselves in this documentary short. They're seen singing and performing together at the start, and then the rest of the feature has them giving various testemonials which investigate the ideal, psychological, emotional, historical and political ties between the descendants of African slaves and their homeland. We see very little of Archie and the others, though, as their reflections, music, poems etc is mostly accompanied by photographic images from the US and filmic documents from contemporary Africa.

Il grande colpo dei 7 uomini d'oro (1966) as One of the general's soldiers. Here it's worth noting that the driver seen in these pics is Jesse Hawkins, who was part of The Folkstudio Singers together with Archie.

Una stagione all'inferno (1971) credited, as African medicine man.

This looks to have been Archie's final acting role.

Lui, lei e il nonno (1959) has a credit for The Archie Savage Dancers
Lui Lei Nonno Credits.jpg

Eight dancers from Archie's group do appear in a nightclub scene, performing a number together with The Paul Steffen Dancers. Archie is not among the black dancers who perform in this act, however, and the choreography is credited to Paul Steffen, so it looks as if the production just used some of Archie's dancers and that he himself may not have been involved in the production, though it's hard to say for certain.

Mobby Jackson (1960) credited, as Rod.

After years of being a seemingly lost film, a frustrating 5-minute clip has finally appeared on You Tube. Fortunately Archie does appear in the clip and is called by name, so we can finally confirm his credit and role.
