Pini, Aldo

Post by PeplumParadise » 27/09/2021, 17:18

Aldo Pini 1956 3.jpg
Aldo Pini in Cineguida 1956
Aldo Pini was a small-part character actor, active in Italian films from at least the mid-1930's until the mid-1960's.

Before being absorbed by the cinema, he attended the prose theatre with Gramatica, Zacconi and the revue one, even as "capocomico".[1]

His unconfirmed biographical details, repeated by many sources, are that he was born in Bologna[1], on April 6th 1909, and died on February 11th 1990 in Ferrara.

I have found a number of undocumented roles for Aldo, so I'm sure there will be more, particularly from the 30's and 40's.

Biographical note[1, 5]

  • Height: 1,79 m.
  • Weight: 72 kg.
  • Instruction: Technical Institute.
  • Foreign languages: English, French (knowledge of Spanish and German).
  • Abodes: Rome, via Rasella, 131 (1949); Rome, via del Tritone, 94 (1963).

Titles to check
  • Teresa Confalonieri (1934) - ANICA
  • Campo di maggio (1935) - ANICA/Cineguida 1949
  • Il Conte di Bréchard (1937) - ANICA/Cineguida 1949
  • Ai vostri ordini, signora... (1939) - ANICA
  • Eravamo settbe vedove (1939) - ANICA as Marine
  • La fanciulla di Portici (1940) - ANICA/Cineguida 1949
  • Catene invisibili (1942) - ANICA/Cineguida 1949 as altro losco amico di Enrico
  • Fra' Diavolo (1942) - ANICA/Cineguida 1949 as altro brigante. In the poor quality copies available it didn't seem like Aldo in this role, so I think better to wait for a better quality copy to appear to make sure. He is not credited.
  • Il fanciullo del West (1942) - ANICA/Cineguida 1949 as John Donovan
  • La fabbrica dell'imprevisto (1942) - ANICA
  • La maestrina (1942) - ANICA
  • Quota 731 (1942) - Cineguida 1949
  • Stasera niente di nuovo (1942) - ANICA/Cineguida 1949 as complice di Giorgio
  • Un colpo di pistola (1942) - ANICA/Cineguida 1949. I looked through this one a couple of times without spotting Aldo, though the copy I found was not great. He is not credited.
  • Un tiro en reserva (1942) - IMDb
  • Barriera a settentrione (1950) - ANICA as milite guardia di finanza
  • La catena dell'odio (1955) - ANICA as Nardi
  • Malafemmena (1957) - ANICA as Defence lawyer
  • Terrore sulla città (1957) - ANICA

No Aldo!
Titles where Pini is credited with appearing somewhere online, but I was unable to find him
  • Cuori sul mare (1950) It is "Aldo Dini" who is credited, see below
  • Perdonami! (1953) There is an "Aldo Dini" credited who some websites think is a mis-spelling of Pini, but with at least 4 credited roles it would appear that Dini is actually another actor (and possibly a generico!)
  • Hanno rubato un tram (1954) ANICA with no role. I've been through this film pretty thoroughly without managing to find Aldo.
  • Le schiave di Cartagine (1956) IMDb with no role. Does not appear. I assume that this film, which was released as "The Sword and the Cross" in English, has been confused with La spada e la croce (1958), in which Aldo does appear.
  • I magnifici tre (1961) This one contains a credit for a "Lido Pini" which again some sources believe should belong to Aldo, but again he is nowhere to be seen so this is presumably yet another actor with a similar-sounding name.
  • I due della legione (1962) This is another credit for "Aldo Dini".
  • Sette contro tutti (1965) IMDb with no role. Does not appear. Maybe confused with his appearance in Gli schiavi più forti del mondo, aka Seven Slaves Against Rome?
