Carlo Cataneo was one of the major exponents of Italian theater from the 50s to the 80s. After his debut in 1955 in Milan, at the Teatro del Convegno alongside Tino Carraro and Ernesto Calindri, he meets Lina Volonghi and works with her, becoming his life partner. His first work at the Piccolo Teatro, where he will remain until the seventies, dates back to 1965, while the farewell to the scenes is from '85 with Chekhov's play Three Sisters at the Teatro Stabile of Genoa.[1]

The debut in TV takes place with the famous mini-series I promessi sposi (1967) by Bolchi. After some works for the small screen such the mini-series La donna di cuore (1969) by Cortese and Le cinque giornate di Milano (1970) by Castellani, he dedicates himself to the cinema with the film Stregoni di città (1973) by G. Bettetini, followed by Macchie solari (1975) by Crispino and La Terrazza (1980) by Scola.

He was also a dubber.[2]

After a not very bright career as a film character actor, he left also this scene, after having participated in the mini-series La ragazza dell'addio (1984) by D'anza.

He passed away on February 17, 2005 at the age of 75 in his home at Bicocca (Milan).[1]
