In the summer of 1974, the Italian news reports the suspicious deaths of some military officers in the cities of Milan, Rome and Bologna. These are apparently random incidents, but Commissioner Solmi suspects that the facts are linked together. Subsequently a further murder takes place: an electrical engineer named Vittorio Chiarotti is found murdered. Solmi discovers that the man was actually a private investigator and assumes that his murder is related to precedents, but he clashes with Judge Mannino, who does not approve of his methods. With the help of Maria, a journalist friend, Solmi is determined to go all the way, in the belief that behind these deaths there is a broader political conspiracy.
