All sources seem agreed that he was born on September 9th 1934 in Uljanik kraj Daruvara, Croatia, Yugoslavia. IMDb adds that he was 1.80m (5' 10 3/4") tall. Surprisingly there are no other biographical details known.
He kickstarted his career with 6 substantial roles between 1958-62, 4 of them in Italian co-productions where he was billed as "Ivo Payer". The role he is probably best remembered for internationally is that of David, opposite Orson Welles, in David e Golia (1960). With handsome looks somewhat similar to Jacques Sernas, this should have marked the start of a promising career as a leading man, but presumably something must have happened to derail his career at this point, as there would be a 3 year gap until his next role in a B-grade Italian historical production and a further 3 before he next reappeared in a supporting role in the mini-series Odissea.
Moving into the 70's, following another 5-year gap, he began to appear in much smaller supporting roles in Yugoslav film and TV productions and a few more international co-productions. He continued to work sporadically through the 80's, with his last-known role coming in 1996.
Ivica died on August 17th 2006 in Gornja Jelenska, Croatia, aged 71.
Since I have had some success finding undocumented roles for a number of our other Yugoslav actors, It could be quite possible that there will be some to be found for Ivica too. From his roles in peplums I'd always assumed he would be better known, but a lack of information online suggests otherwise. If anyone does know what happened to offset his career in the sixties I would love to know.
