Canti, Aldo

Aldo Canti in I fantastici 3 $upermen (1967)

Aldo Canti, most often credited under the pseudonym 'Nick Jordan', was a stuntman and actor, active in Italian films from the start of the 1960's until the early 1980's.

Aldo was born, according to all available sources, on May 16th 1941, location unknown.

His earliest known roles come from 1961, after which he kept busy in peplums for the first half of the decade, scoring a recurring role in the "Ten gladiator" series. Aldo was always at his best as part of an ensemble in roles with little dialogue, such as probably his best known role as one of the three titular heroes in I fantastici 3 $upermen (1967). He played several prominent roles opposite Lee Van Cleef in the Sabata series, but in the 70's his screen appearances became more irregular. Currently his last known role dates from 1982 in Buona come il pane.

He was murdered in Villa Borghese park on January 21st 1990, which many sources report as being mob related. Tom Betts adds more details on his Westerns… all'Italiana! blog: "In his free time Canti was an organiser of clandestine gambling dens also linked to the Band of Magliana. He apparently had let a few of his patrons run up a sizable debt. He made arrangements to meet them at Rome's Villa Borghese Park on January 21, 1990. He was found shot in the head in Rome at the Villa Borghese Trolley the following morning. During the investigation that followed it was established that he was killed by two people he knew, and who had a gambling debt with him but the killers were never found."

I continue to find undocumented roles for Aldo, so I'm sure there will be more to add. He was one of the most animated stuntmen, it would be rare to find an appearance where he does not perform somersaults or high jumps - something which often makes it difficult to grab images where he is clearly identifiable.

Le meraviglie di Aladino (1961) as Street acrobat.

Performing somersaults along with Nazzareno Zamperla, he's in the background in the images. You do see him more clearly in the film, but, as is often the case with Aldo, he's constantly moving and impossible to get any shots where he is identifiable.

Golia e il cavaliere mascherato (1963) as Gypsy fighter.

Easier to identify in the full frame English copy than the very dark widescreen Italian print.

I dieci gladiatori (1963) credited, as One of the ten gladiators.

Aldo was one of the seven stuntmen who appeared in all 3 films in the "ten gladiators" series, but he mostly remained in the background, and in the sequels his was the only one of the 10 who was not given a character name.
