Gianni Dei (born Gianni Carpanelli, Bologna on 21st December 1940 − Rome, 19th October 2020) was a fairly popular face in genre cinema but also in the world of music: in fact he recorded some songs and participated in many TV-shows in the sixties[2] and was a member of Alessandroni's Cantori Moderni band for some time.[3]
In the cinema, credited sometimes as "John Day", made himself known above all in the genre movies: Giallo, Horror and above all in Erotic Comedy. His most important film was the romantic comedy Pronto... c'è una Giuliana per te (1967) by Massimo Franciosa, where he starred alongside Mita Medici.
More recently he appeared in the documentaries Paura: Lucio Fulci Remembered – Volume 1 (2008) and Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! (2008).
He died at the age of 79 after a long illness. The news of his death was first released on social media by the TV star Mara Venier, whose friendship had bound them for 35 years.
