Aldo Sambrell was a character actor, often in small parts, active in Spanish and European films from the start of the 1960's until 2007.

He was born Alfredo Sánchez Brell on February 23rd 1931 in Madrid, the son of Basilia Brell and Francisco Sánchez. He was married to model and actress Candice Kay (Cándida López Cano) in 1964. Aldo had one son, Alfredo Xavier, from an extramarital affair with make-up artist Lila Cavaleiro.[1][2]

When he was 12 years old, at the outbreak of the Spanish civil war, Aldo's parents moved the family to Mexico, where he was educated and trained as an actor as well as playing football in a professional capacity - a profession he continued for some time following his return to Spain. He also spent some time living in Sweden, where he trained as an actor. Following the death of his father in 1959, Aldo returned to live permanently in Spain.

His earliest-known film appearance came in 1961 and he quickly established himself as a reliable actor in small character roles. From the mid-60's to the early 70's he worked predominantly in the western genre, usually cast as Mexican villains, which comprised more than half his film appearances from this period and he is surely best remembered for his small appearances in Sergio Leone's "dollar" trilogy. He was always more likely to be found in international co-productions shot in Spain and Italy rather than what could be deemed "Spanish" films, meaning his name was certainly better known to international audiences than in his native land. In the mid-70's he formed his own production company, Asbrell, which would produce a number of low budget productions over the coming decades, some with Aldo as director and/or writer.

From the 80's onwards Aldo appeared mostly in low-budget productions, many released directly to video, if at all. In the 2000's he appeared regularly as an interviewee in genre-related documentaries.

Aldo died in Alicante on July 10th 2010, aged 79, after suffering three cerebral micro-infarcts. His ashes were scattered in the western town "Fort Bravo" in the Tabernas desert, Almería.

Aldo is listed as appearing on Enciclopedia del Cine Español. I think this could be him, the earlobe seems to match at least, but since he never removes his mask then that is all there is to go on, so I think it must be an uncertain identification.
