A lesser-known member of a famous Italian acting dynasty, Pasquale De Filippo was active as a bit-part and character actor in Italian films from at least the early 40's until the early 70's.
He was born on March 30th 1906 in Naples, Italy. His parents were actors Eduardo Scarpetta and Anna De Filippo, his older brother was Eduardo Passarelli and his step-brothers and sisters were Eduardo, Peppino and Titina De Filippo, Domenico and Vincenzo Scarpetta and Maria Giannetti, all actors. He died on April 13th 1978, aged 72. His unconfirmed biographical details are repeated by a number of online sources, but given that his family is fairly well documented I think they can probably be relied upon.
Pasquale's known film career started in the early 40's playing uncredited bit parts. He could frequently be found appearing in very minor roles in the films and TV plays of his more famous step-brothers and he was also a regular in the films of Totò and, later, Franco and Ciccio. He would usually play a straight role against comics, but he also played small roles in many dramatic films, particularly swashbucklers. He would usually be found near the bottom of the credit list, if he was credited at all. For some unknown reason in many of his TV appearances in the 60's he was credited with his names reversed, as Filippo De Pasquale (this has resulted in him having 3 separate IMDb pages, the 3rd as Fillipo De Pascale, a name by which he was never credited!)
I have found a number of previously undocumented roles for Pasquale, so I'm sure there will be more to follow, particularly from the 40's.
