He was born on March 5th 1916 in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz, Spain (where he has a street named after him).[1]
Alfonso's family relocated to Seville when he was 5, where he completed his schooling. At the age of 17 he entered the Artillery Apprentice School, studying to be a draughtsman. Leaving the army when the civil war ended, he moved to Madrid in search of work. After trying his hand at various professions he winds up working as a set decorator at the Sevilla Films film studios, where he is spotted and cast in his first acting roles.
Enciclopedia del Cine Español lists one role from 1945 which I have been unable to confirm. His earliest confirmed role comes from 1947, after which he worked quite prolifically for the next 2 decades, most frequently being cast as law officials or military officers. In the 60's he became most associated with the western genre, which comprises more than 50% of his appearances from that decade.
Alfonso retired from acting due to a stomach ailment at the start of the 70's, bar a one-off appearance from 1975. He concentrated instead on running a restaurant he owned in the Guadarrama district of Madrid, that was frequented by theatre and cinema workers. In the mid-80's he retired due to health reasons, moving to El Campello, Alicante.
Alfonso died in Madrid on January 20th 1996, aged 79.
Since starting to prepare his topic I have found a few undocumented roles for Alfonso, so I think it is extremely likely that there will be more to be found, particularly from the 50's.

Titles where Alfonso is listed as appearing somewhere online, but cannot be found. There always has to be one!
- Gli zitelloni (1958) IMDb with no role. Not found after multiple searches.
- Il marito (1958) IMDb as Nurse. As far as I could find there are no Spanish actors in the film (IMDb lists 4 as appearing uncredited), although it is a Spanish co-production. Maybe it's one of those titles where the Spanish version contains different footage from the Italian?
- La saga: Negocio de familia (2004 TV series) IMDb lists Alfonso as appearing in 4 episodes, but, since it was filmed 8 years after his death, it is obviously a different actor of the same name who appears.
