: Inocencio Barbán in La vida por delante (1958)

Inocencio Barbán was a small-part and background actor, active in Spanish films from the early 1940's to the start of the 1970's. Additionally he was also involved in various aspects of film production from at least the mid-1950's to early 1980's.

He was born Inocencio Barbán González on June 5th 1914 in Madrid, Spain. He had a daughter, Almudena.

His earliest acting roles found date from 1942 and he appeared irregularly in small roles, mostly uncredited, for the next decade. His acting career briefly gathered momentum in the latter half of the 1950's, with small but memorable appearances in a number of well-known productions. Inocencio was also somewhat of a stuntman, frequently appearing in fight scenes. His last-known appearance as an actor comes in 1970. He was credited on a number of occasions as "Luis Barbán". Since most of the early identifications were found from images and were seemingly otherwise unknown, then it seems very possible that there could be further undocumented appearances to be found.

From the mid-1950's he also began working, uncredited, as a head of production, including being involved with a number of major international productions shot in Spain. From the mid-1960's, coinciding with his final on-screen appearances, he started to get credited in a number of behind-the-scenes production jobs, including credits as Production manager/assistant/supervisor/coordinator/secretary, property master and "sound". His last-known production credit comes from 1982, after which he seemingly retired.

Inocencio died in Cangas de Narcea on July 7th 2005, aged 91.

A profile posted by Spanish film historian Juan Carlos Alquézar Alquézar (author of the excellent Lady Filstrup blog many years ago) was of enormous help in confirming biographical details and identifying our man in early roles. Inocencio's daughter, Almudena, contacted Juan Carlos with some old photographs of her father, wishing to find more about his film career and this profile was the result. Since the biographical information contained comes from his daughter then I would assume it can be regarded as reliable.

I have opted to list his production credits separately, since, as far as is known, he never appeared as an actor in any of the films where he worked behind the scenes (I've since found one).

I used to have this film and can confirm the image is from it, but I can no longer find a copy. This is another image from the personal collection of Inocencio's daughter.
