José Luis Chinchilla in Treasure Island (1972)

José Luis Chinchilla was a small-part actor, stuntman, master of arms and organiser of stunt teams, active in Spanish films from the start of the 1960's until 1990.

Several sources report his full name as being José Luis Martínez Chinchilla, and he was credited on a number of occasions with variations of this name. IMDb gives the unconfirmed detail that he died in 1990, which would tie in with the abrupt end to his career. No other biographical details are currently known.

José Luis looks to have had 2 distinctly separate careers, firstly as an actor and stuntman and secondly as an organiser of stunt teams. The second seems quite separate from the first since it seems he hardly ever appeared as a part of the stunt teams he was credited with organising. It seems there was some serious competitive rivalry between the organisers of the three principal Spanish stunt teams - I previously found a documentary which went into some detail on this, interviewing the organisers of the rival stunt teams (this was after Chinchilla's death), but I was unable to find it again. To this day it seems Chinchilla is held in high regard among the Spanish "especialista" community, making it more surprising that so little information is available. He was reportedly a specialist in falling from great heights.

I have found a number of undocumented acting appearances, so it's very likely that more will follow. For the most part he kept his head shaved, making him easily identifiable (but making him harder to spot in films where he grew his hair or wore a wig).
